Exhibition Hall Divisions and Classes

“Ploughing Into The New Decade”


• All entries must be grown or made by the exhibitor.
• Only one entry per exhibitor in each section.
• The exhibition hall will be open on Wednesday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. to receive entries.
• All entries must be in the exhibition hall, and tagged by 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
• Exhibits must be removed between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
• It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure that your exhibits are collected. The Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society is not responsible for lost items, although we do everything in our power, to ensure the safety and proper collection of all exhibits.
• All exhibits must be tagged for entry into the hall. Exhibit tags are available at the Fair office, the week of the fair.
• All gift certificates and special prizes are donations, and are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged.
SPECIAL AWARDS: These award presentations will take place at the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society Banquet.
Exhibition Hall Trophy - The exhibitor with the highest total points accumulated from the hall exhibits, will be presented with this trophy with his/her name inscribed on it.
A $50 Gift Certificate, donated by Vankleek Cottage, Vankleek Hill, awarded to the exhibitor with the highest total points.
A $50 Gift Certificate, donated by Brian’s Place, Barney Gordon, prop.,Vankleek Hill, awarded to the exhibitor with the second highest total points.
New Exhibitor Trophy: Donated by Hillcrest Funeral Home, present¬ed to the first time exhibitor with the highest total points, accumulated from the hall exhibits.
A $30 Gift Certificate, donated by Crooks and Crannies, Hawkesbury, awarded to the new exhibitor with the highest total points.
Junior Division Hall Trophy - The exhibitor from the Junior Division with the highest total points, will be presented with a trophy with his/her name inscribed on it.
Special Prize: $15 to the Junior Exhibitor with the highest total points in the Exhibition Hall classes. Donated by Kenda Allen.
Special Prize: a $10 Gift Certificate, donated by Crooks and Crannies, Hawkesbury, to the Junior Exhibitor with the second highest points in the Exhibition Hall classes.
Please note that special rosette ribbons awarded to “Best Of...”classes will be for display only and will remain the property of the Homecraft Division. Also, any exhibitor wishing to return his/her ribbons for recycling purposes, may do so on Sunday, when the exhibits are removed from the hall.

- Vine fruit (which includes tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini) entered in these sections, must have a short (2”) section of the vine attached.

DESCRIPTIVE TERMS & EXHIBITOR TIPS
- Stem – a flower stalk with one or more flowers, buds and foliage.
- Bloom – one flower with foliage on each stalk, with no buds showing colour.
- Spike (spray) – a cluster of individual flowers up and down a stem.
- Condition – free of disease, insect damage, insects etc.
- Colour – should be uniform.
- Form – proper shape for type of flower.
- Substance – fresh, not wilted.
- Uniform in size when more than one bloom or stem is required
- Showmanship/Display counts for part of the placing
- Always leave some foliage with entry, but clean off excess foliage, especially what is under water in the container.
Every entry must have an entry tag well attached to a sturdy container, heavy enough to support the flowers in it.

95. Farmer’s Favourite - A centerpiece for an outdoor table in a tin container. Accessories acceptable. Not to exceed 18” (45cm) in any direction.

CULINARY ARTS DIVISION
RULES :
• Previous day’s baking desired.
• Canned fruit and preserves must be sealed.
• Jellies and jams to be in small (250-500 mL) mason jars, no wax please.
• Exhibitors to cover baking with clear plastic bags, no plastic wrap please, except on cakes.
• Muffins, cookies and small cakes are exhibited on small disposable plates provided by the exhibitor.
• Mixes are allowed only where specified.
• Use only all purpose flour and remove all cakes from pans, and muffins from paper.
• Exhibitors of pies and cakes may leave one portion on display and take the remainder home Thursday 7 - 9 p.m. or Friday 9 -11:30 a.m.
Please bring your own knife and a plate on which to leave the one portion.

Quilt Special – Quilts of Valour
Quilts of Valour are Quilted made for injured military personnel on their return to Canada. The organization’s mission is “To ensure that our injured Canadian soldiers are recognized for their bravery and commitment of their true patriotism to our country.  We give this support through the presentation of quilts of comfort made for our military service people.
All quilts entered in this category are dedicated to the memory of Cpl. Patrick Lormand, Chute A Blondeau, killed in action in Afghanistan, September 2009.  Quilts entered in this category are donated by the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society to the Prescott-Russell IPM 2011 for the donation to the  “Quilts of Valour” Canada.
Quilts are to be minimum size: 50” x 60”and maximum size 72” x 96”.
